Industrial IoT
Industrial IoT: From Sensor Data to Operational Decisions
Installing sensors is the beginning, not the end. The value of industrial IoT appears when data is cleansed, analyzed and connected to operational action and management decisions.
In many industrial plants, sensors are installed and data is collected, yet decisions are still made on experience and manual reports. The gap between data and decision is exactly where the value of industrial IoT is lost.
The data-to-decision chain
- Connect: securely collect data from heterogeneous equipment.
- Refine: remove noise, standardize and add operational context.
- Analyze: detect patterns, anomalies and early signs of failure.
- Act: turn insight into work orders, alerts or schedule changes.
- Decide: aggregate results for planning, investment and improvement.
Security from day one
Connecting operational equipment to networks creates a new attack surface. Network segregation, device identity, encrypted communications and command control must be part of the architecture from the start.
Start small, grow sustainably
Instead of large, high-risk projects, it is better to start with one production line or a group of critical assets, measure the value and then expand the scope.
